Koholmen, 2017

A seemingly idyllic safe haven turns into a claustrophobic, nightmarish site; the picturesque scenery of an isolated island transforms into a place permanently threatened by darkness and the unknown.

What starts out as the reunion of two former friends becomes one chasing the other, while the power dynamics keep changing.

Koholmen’s visual aspects are influenced by the landscape paintings of Finnish painters such as Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg, Fanny Churberg and Albert Edelfelt. Inspired by Finnish nature and mythology, they combine elements of natural beauty and the obscure.
